Pitch:
At the dawn of his retirement, Ahmed, a janitor in a Swiss hospital for 40 years, is getting ready to return to his home country. But the bonds he has formed over time and the love of his daughter, who was born here, shake his certainty.
Synopsis:
Short film inspired by the story of director Khalissa Akadi’s father.
The film tells the story of Ahmed, a 65-year-old Senegalese immigrant who has worked as a janitor in the same hospital for 40 years. Ahmed has always had one goal in mind: to go back to his homeland once it’s time to retire. Switzerland has never been more than a stop along the way, not a destination. Yet there is Yasmina, his only daughter, born here, deeply attached to this country she considers her own.
So when his last week of work begins, Ahmed faces a reality he hadn’t anticipated: an emotional glance, a final meal, shared memories, a surprise party he would have wanted to run from but will never forget. The closer the farewells get, the more he feels the weight of the bonds he formed despite himself. Each day brings him closer to his departure… but also to his doubts. Torn between duty to himself, deep faith, and unexpected emotional ties, Ahmed has to make a heartbreaking choice: leave to return to his roots or stay to honor who he has become.
